Very sad to hear of the recent passing of Bill Durham. A group of us were lucky enough to have surfed with Bill, and had some memorable trips to Shippies back in the day, in our Morris Minors. Their entire family would camp at Ngunguru where we got to know him in our teen years. He had surfed in Australia, and came back with a nice camera, which none of us had in those days. Quite a few of the great photo's on this site, of our early fun times surfing have been saved forever, because of his camera shots. I never heard him say a bad word about anyone else in all the years I knew him. A very gentle man. Our hearts go out to his wife, Irene and his family at this sad time. Pleasure to have known you Bill. Rest in peace.

Just to let you all know the sad passing of Phil Mischewski. Born 24/11/1939. Passed away on 15/08/2018. A great early Northland surfer, a great skin diver and sailor. He surfed with the Edge brothers, Terry Knew, Tui Wordley, David Woodman, Max McGregor, Max Leonard, and many other Whangarei pioneer surfers, long before us guys, born in the 40's, got on a board. One of the legends! Cheers.
